Lost Your Hygiene Passport? – Here’s How to Order a New One


The hygiene passport consists of two parts: a paper certificate and a card, both of which are valid indefinitely under current legislation, as long as you have proof of it. However, if either part is lost, you must order a replacement. The process for ordering a replacement hygiene passport varies depending on whether one or both parts are lost and how long it has been since you took the hygiene passport test. If any personal information on the hygiene passport changes, a new one must also be ordered.

Ordering a replacement is different depending on the situation:

  • Your name/date of birth/social security number has changed
  • One part (card or paper certificate) of your hygiene passport is lost
  • Both parts of your hygiene passport are lost, and it has been less than 5 years since your hygiene passport test
  • Both parts of your hygiene passport are lost, and it has been more than 5 years since your hygiene passport test
  • You received a message that ordering a replacement is not possible

1. Your Name/Date of Birth/Social Security Number Has Changed

The hygiene passport must display up-to-date personal information, so if your name, date of birth, or social security number changes, you should renew your hygiene passport. The only exception is if your previous hygiene passport only displayed your date of birth — in this case, you don’t need to order a new hygiene passport due to a changed social security number.

  1. First, contact Hygieniapassi.fi customer service to confirm that a replacement is possible. You will receive detailed instructions on how to order a new hygiene passport based on your specific situation. To expedite the process, please provide as much detail as possible about your situation in your initial message.
  2. Order the replacement from our online store. The replacement fee is €44.
  3. Submit the remaining part of your hygiene passport for archiving as instructed by customer service. The certificate must show both the old and new name/date of birth/social security number. For example, you can order a certificate of existence from the Digital and Population Data Services Agency, but a copy of your marriage certificate or decision from the same agency will also suffice. The documentation can be submitted either electronically or by mail.
  4. In the summer of 2024, the Finnish Food Authority updated the hygiene passport to include the full name and social security number. The tester must verify this from a valid ID, so you will also need to submit a copy of your current ID. You can send it in the same envelope as the old hygiene passport, but if it's missing, we will send instructions for electronic submission directly to the hygiene passport tester once your old hygiene passport is archived.
  5. The hygiene passport tester will order a new hygiene passport from the Finnish Food Authority. You will receive the new hygiene passport approximately 4–6 weeks after the tester has received all necessary documents.

2. One Part (Card or Paper Certificate) of Your Hygiene Passport Is Lost

Did you know that both parts of the hygiene passport are equally valid as official proof of your hygiene knowledge? This means you don’t necessarily need to order a completely new hygiene passport if you still have one part of it.

However, if you prefer, you can order a new hygiene passport from our online store if one part is lost. You will need to submit the remaining part of your hygiene passport to our office for archiving.

  1. First, contact Hygieniapassi.fi customer service to confirm that a replacement is possible. You will receive detailed instructions on how to proceed with the replacement. To expedite the process, please provide as much detail as possible about your situation in your initial message.
  2. Order the replacement from our online store. The replacement fee is €44.
  3. Submit the remaining part of your hygiene passport for archiving as instructed by customer service.

3. Both Parts of Your Hygiene Passport Are Lost, and It Has Been Less Than 5 Years Since Your Test

  1. Contact the test organizer or hygiene passport tester who conducted the test and issued your original hygiene passport. Only the tester who conducted the test can order a replacement.
  2. If you took the hygiene passport test through Hygieniapassi.fi, please contact our customer service.
  3. Once you’ve received confirmation from Hygieniapassi.fi customer service or your hygiene passport tester, you can order the replacement from our online store. The replacement fee is €44. Please contact our customer service again after making the payment.
  4. The hygiene passport tester will order a new hygiene passport from the Finnish Food Authority. You will receive the new hygiene passport approximately 4–6 weeks after the tester has received all necessary documents.

Testers are required to archive documents supporting the issuance of a hygiene passport (such as test forms) for five years from the date the hygiene passport was issued. If you have a copy of your hygiene passport, you can see the tester’s name and/or tester ID on the document (the tester ID is formatted as B1234).

Note! If you took the hygiene passport test after June 10, 2024, any hygiene passport tester can order a replacement. Please contact customer service directly and wait for further instructions.


4. Both Parts of Your Hygiene Passport Are Lost, and It Has Been More Than 5 Years Since Your Test

You will need to retake the hygiene passport test. You can find upcoming hygiene passport tests here.

If both parts of your hygiene passport are lost and it has been more than 5 years since it was issued, you must retake the test. You will also need to retake the test if you need to renew your hygiene passport (e.g., due to a name change) and the hygiene passport was originally issued based on an academic degree.

Note! If you took the hygiene passport test after June 10, 2024, it is still possible to order a replacement even after 5 years. Please contact customer service directly and wait for further instructions.


5. You Received a Message That Ordering a Replacement Is Not Possible

Ordering a replacement is not possible in the following cases:

  • Both parts of the hygiene passport are lost, and it has been more than 5 years since your test.
  • Both parts of the hygiene passport are lost, it has been less than 5 years since the test (before June 10, 2024), but the test was not conducted through Hygieniapassi.fi. In this case, the replacement can be ordered from the original tester, but unfortunately, we do not have the information and cannot assist with this.

In the following cases, we will not know the outcome in advance, but it will become clear when the hygiene passport tester attempts to order a new hygiene passport from the Finnish Food Authority. We will notify you as soon as possible and cancel the replacement order:

  • You received your original hygiene passport based on an academic degree.
  • The Finnish Food Authority has revoked your hygiene passport for a significant reason.
